With fall sports coming up, I know the days will start getting shorter and shooting in low light will be upon us. I caught a pick-up game of a local high school soccer team and use the Mark III and 400 f/2.8 II. Not a lot of great action here, but I wanted to see what it could do in late afternoon shooting... so I pushed the ISO up to 3200 and 6400 on purpose. Just sized and sharpened. Noise reduction turned off in the camera, and no noise reduction done in processing.

First one is at ISO2000... the clean example to base the others on (can't believe I said that... :) )

Next one is ISO3200

Next two are ISO6400

Man I love the ISO handling in the Mk III. Did you do any noise reduction on these at all?

ooops, should have read your intro first. :o:o

Great practice shots.

Great example of ISO3200 & 6400 just what I wanted to see. Now for the AI Servo focus issues any probs there?

I haven't had any so far... doesn't mean they aren't there I guess. I have tried to see it fail, and so far it betters my IIN bodies... which aren't perfect either.

Can we see a 100% crop of the ISO 6400 ones?

Here is an ISO6400 100% crop... untouched. I did NOT do any levels, sharpening, etc... and no noise reduction either in the camera or after. This is just a 100% crop from a Large JPEG. Blacks are the areas that usually have the most noise. Its interesting that in this series of shots, the areas of bokeh seemed to show the noise the most after sharpening, so the best result would come from a mask... since the subject showed very little noise. But for what I print... mostly 5x7 and 8x10, they are fine out of the camera... nothing required but print sharpening and maybe a slight levels tweak.

Yep, imagine that! :)

I hope they can get yours working. I still have this doubt in the back of my mind that I'm too stupid or too much of a noob to find the problem.
