It's time to ask the question I've been longing to ask. Go easy.

In A1 servo mode, if the focus point is kept on the moving object, the camera/lens will track it and keep it in focus. You press the shutter, it takes the picture and then happily keeps on tracking.

So what happens at 8.5/10 fps? This postby Cider got me thinking. Does the camera take a picture, refocus, take a picture, refocus, take a picture, refocus etc? all within the second?

Or how does A1 servo cope with 10FPS?

I was thinking about this myself last night, but with the 400D 3fp.. really only one way to find out and actually try it and see what happens! ;)

the camera does it best to refocus between each shot and may well get the focus spot on but may miss too.

There's a custom function in the 1-series bodies that will give you the option of having the camera set focus priority or have it set the fps as the priority. I personally have my 1D Mark II set on focus priority because Id rather have the shot in focus than having a blurry shot.

Today at the zoo in AI servo I had my camera set for 8fps, but when I was tracking birds in flight it was probably more like 6fps. Still fast.
