Stacked Fly

Managed to get out for an hour or so this evening. Its was a bit windy but I did manage to find this fly nestled amongst the brambles. Shot at ISO800 so its a bit noisy. Do you think it looks ok or does it need more contrast? I havent done any noise reduction yet.

Looks great to me. How would it look if you cool the WB more? Would make it look nice and winterish...

Looks fine, could do with some NR. Seems to have pretty good detail even at 800.

Pete do you have to adjust the white balance to the RAW umage or can it be done to the Jpeg image?

Alby..what software would you use for the noise reduction?

Use a program like Neat Image or Noise Ninja if you want to get the most out of the image. Photoshop's "remove noise" function isn't bad and will probably work for a simple image like this, but third party programs are generally better. But yeah, that can be a great image with a little noise reduction...

Really nice shot. Like the composition. I would leave the background that's just IMHO.

For stacking, is it recommended to use a tripod?

Ran..i dont think its necessary and most of mine are shot without a tripod as getting it into position often scares the insects away.

Great capture, you could use Noise reduction but I think it is great as is.
It would be a little bit of a pain creating a layer mask with the hairs this guy has just to keep fly detail and reduce noise in background, but it would be a great starting ground.
Also as this was ISO 800 and the image is stacked which camera were you using for this?

Sam, thank you for the comments and advice. This was shot with a 350D and tamron 90mm macro.
