Below is a slection from some of the events covered I've covered recently for one of the NZ paper groups.

Any feed back is welcome - can't get better if I don't know what else I might have done :)

1. Netball is a lot faster than most people think. They also tend not to give off any clues as to where the ball is going next. Jumping, they catch a ball and tend not to look where they are goign to pass.

2. This was the weekend I picked up the MkIII - High ISO with lots of different light sources - Excellent camera ! Shot with a 70-200 F2.8

3. Slightly more traditional for NZ but this is the "other" game they play with an oval ball (League)

4. Knutmegs anyone

5. Traditional banker shot for a rugby match - This was the final for the Foxton Cup and a cliff hanger. Came down to a penalty kick right on full time but the stand off (yes I'm that old) sliced it. (BTW anyone know what a "2nd 5 8" is)

6. Same match - The guy with the ball is one Chris Thompson - He worked very hard that day.

Any feed back comments and suggestions welcomed. Mostly taken with a MKIII and a 70-200 F2.8 IS. The Exif should present

Nice range of shots there - although would possibly have tweaked the white balance in the pool shot (or cheated and converted it to black and white!!!)

Regards your question, I'd have hoped being from NZ you would have known it - since its solely a Kiwi terms!

In New Zealand the fly half is referred to as the first five eighth, suggesting a slightly deeper position than halfback (in Kiwi terminology this is just the scrum half - whereas in other nations, half back refers to the Scrum Half and Fly Half) and the inside centre as the second five eighth implying a more forward position than a three quarter back (ie the outside centre, wings and Full Back).

Hope this helps - only know this as that as I used to play 1st or 2nd 5/8!

Thank you !! I played scrum half in Essex when Locks were just the 2nd Row. Only got here to Kiwi Land 9 months ago. :)

I've been playing with the white balance on the snooker and I've over done it. I was trying to get the seedy pool hall type shot.

I was amazed at the lack of noise in the high iso shots on the MKiii. In an attempt to make the camera fail I took wide angle shot encompassing the worst carpet I've seen in years - purple curtains on the slit windows near the ceiling, bright lit at the back with sunlight coming through a door way and a bunch of vertical cables holding different temperature lights. It is an awful photo but the camera took it all in.

As I pointed out to our American friend, this isn't pool, it's snooker. I could understand an American getting it wrong - but a Brit:(
