Ichneumon wasp zoom

Ichneumon wasp posing on my car bumper. Think the shots are approx 2:1, 3:1 and 4:1 all focus stacked- a very patient wasp

Brian, do you use a monopod? Or tripod? Or do you just have the steadiest hand of all? Because all of your pictures are nothing short of perfectly focused

Actually Brian, this is a good thread to ask you a quick question about something I have seen in the garden but cannot for the life of me get a photo. I was wondering if it could be an Ichneumon of some sort - its very thin, about an inch long, a sort of blue hue to it and initially looks like a 'sail' pointing upwards as it flies, but wonder if that is actually its body pointing upright. Very difficult description I know, but its really bugging me that I cant photograph it. It moves all the time in a short 'dancing' kind of movementand is usually around the old wooden shed that has climbing roses down the side, also was around the wooden garden table today.

Ran_Photo - No I don't use a tripod but do often use just a long pole. But for shots like this I was able to simply touch the bumper with my left hand and rest the lens on that. For most of the shots I do at 3:1 or higher I'm resting the lens on something- most often me

Linda- Does sound like an Ichneumon- they normally fly in a head up position with the legs dangling down- very ungainly looking. Sure you have tried but just watch it and see if it lands- these often have a favourite area they like especially if there is some dead wood around.

Gordon- No not branch shaking- my car is just coming into it's macro season as it's now beginning to get some shade during the day

Thanks for that Brian, will carry on looking for it. There is plenty of dead stuff around the trees down the side of the garden so will be like looking for a needle in a haystack lol, but it does return to the side of the shed when Ive seen it. I really want a photo of this strange insect.
