Looks like people at Canon don't talk to each other. This is from the White Paper on the 1DMIII

Sounds like either the Mk III is a 12-bit camera like the 400D, or the white paper is wrong. I'd venture to say that the white paper is wrong, since the Mk III is a 14-bit camera and the web site specs reflect the increased file size.

I am with Tom in this, and "only" 4 Mb for the sRAW have sounded weak from the beginning ...

  • sRAW, --->>> RAW of 12 MB (3888 x 2592) and sRAW of 7 MB (1936 x 1288 )

I believe these are the size of the files not the megapixels, at that resolution it shows it will be a 10.1 MP camera

I'm surprised noone commented on the relocation of the side buttons now at the bottom. To me it is a step down in terms of ergonomics.

I know that this sounds crazy, but bear with me: could it be that having the buttons at the bottom will actually improve ergonomics? At least with a grip on. Now you can reach the buttons with both your left hand in landscape mode, and your right hand in portrait mode if you hold on to the grip with your right hand. I can see how this might be better than the current setup where you only have access to the buttons with your left hand in landscape mode.

Also, I think the new grip makes sense because it too needs to be watersealed to match the body (if the photos are real I'm pretty confident that the body will be watersealed based on visual cues around the hotshoe and buttons). Hopefully they fixed the wobble/flexibility of the grip while they were at it :) Something less plasticky feeling would be nice too.

You honestly care? I could care less. Hardly use 'em. Can playback with the set button so the other buttons get minimal use unless I change some cf or something.

It would be counter-intuitive. To have "better" ergonomics with the grip on and in portrait format. :rolleyes:
Anyone noticed the last button with what looks to be a 'star' icon? I wonder what that is....

I think it has more to be with put a 3" LCD in a small body ...

That's the reason the buttons are down there, but we were discussing whether doing so makes usability better or worse. Either way, it would definitely take some getting used to, although I don't think it would be that big a deal to me personally since I hardly ever use them on my 20D.

I wonder if the usual pattern will follow after it hits the shelves. First for about a week it is fantastic to some. A week or two later we'll hear about too much noise at an ISO where it shouldn't be. Maybe a week or two later possibly focus problems and maybe the new grip doesn't fit right and so on, and so on. Think it will happen??

No matter what, there will be a lot of attention paid to it. Let's hope it's not because it doesn't focus right!:rolleyes:

Let's all hope the attention paid to it will be because it's such a fantastic camera! Headlines in the photography magazines; articles appearing everywhere on the merits of it; glowing reviews; etc.!:D:D:D
