Hello everyone, I just got done uploading a BUNCH of pics from my first trip to a quad track. The ones I'm posting are just a random few, and are unedited.

i was shooting with a Nikon D50 with the kit lens. I believe its a mixture of the poor glass quality, and the extreme amount of dust in the air that made these blurry.

the dust was horrible, frankly. the track was poorly groomed and the dry conditions just made the whole complex a dust bowl...Im gonna start going to better tracks soon.

Personally I don't like any of them... no offense though ;) Some of them have some potential though, but... First of all, crop much much tighter. Second, they are all at least a bit (most of them are a lot) underexposed. That's perfect sample why I shoot manual, and not in some program mode (cameras are just not smart enough, especially for something like this). And third, most of them are way too soft. For some, quick USM would solve this, others are just way too soft to be usable.

You might tighten them up a bit. dust is a ****, we shoot horse events.

Can't comment on the Nikon, for obvious resaons.

A number of these are backfocused. Not blurry, but the camera was not focusing on the subject - making the subject oof.

They all look like they are out of focus. I understand that they are straight off the camera, but oof problems won't be fixed.

You need a camera that can focus faster in ai servo mode or adjust technique. I would also suggest a polarizer and shooting with the sun at your back.

yeah, i find the camera's auto focus was sub-par with the dust, and lighting conditions, and the kit lens would un-focus itself with as little as a gust of wind.

if anyone could suggest a camera that would serve me well in sports as well as portraiture photography, it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know why, but I was expecting sprinters/runners with muscular legs...
