While on the quest for more memory, I looked @ a local online retailer and saw two interesting types of CF cards that I haven't seen before. I recognize crucial from their ram, but not patriot

Patriot 4GB Compact Flash 50X CF Type I Flash Memory Card - $49.99
http://www.ncix.com …4G50CF&manufacture=Others (external link)

Crucial 4GB Compact Flash 40X CF Type I Flash Memory Card - $54.99
http://www.ncix.com …ture=CRUCIAL%20TECHNOLOGY (external link)

It's about twice the size of a Sandisk Ultra II card at about the same price.

Anyone used these cards before? I tried searching on google for reviews but just found retailer pages. Would their 40x and 50x speeds be enough for my 30d?

I would try getting them to try but once you open you can't return them. I currently run 4GB Sandisk Ultra II's. However, an impending 2 month trip to Africa makes me want at least 20gbs of file storage.

patriot is also a manufacturer for RAM --- can't say i've used either brand for CF cards though

Crucial has been in the PC RAM industry for quite some time, IIRC.

I would trust Crucial in a heartbeat. When one of their DDR sticks failed in my PC after well over 2 years they instantly offered a free replacement no questions asked.

I can't imagine Crucial would turn anything out that was bad. They're probably better known for their PC memory and certainly have a good reputation there. It's only the speed issue 40x that I'd have any concerns about. But unless you're using burst mode a lot of the time it's probably no real detriment.

Yeah - both those are fairly slow, more or less in the range you'd get from the SanDisk Blue (standard) cards.

Wish you had posted before July 31st. I picked up two 4GB CF Kingston 133x cards from Adorama. After rebate they come to $35 each.
