Hey, first post in the wedding forum, yay me :)
Just thought I'd share some pics i took on saturday from a beach wedding i shot for a friend of mine as a present to the bride and groom. It was a young couple and was done very, uhh, budget-oriented-ly. The ceremony was done on a public beach(with nice harsh lighting of course), with about 50-60 people in attendance. It was horribly windy as well, most of the time i couldn't even hear the minister talking. The ceremony only lasted maybe 5-10min though, then the family took pics, then i took them off for some posed shots. After some mingling, we went to a nearby community hall for the reception, where there was more time for pics.

Anyways, all my well laid out plans were shot to hell pretty quickly, so i had to improvise as much as i could. I'd appreciate any comments or critiques you have, this was the first wedding I've ever shot, and pretty much the first time I've ever really worked with people when taking pics.

I'm quite fond of the exposure here. Although not a fan of the soft focus look, brides dig that stuff.

Where in BC? I shot a beach wedding on the Island myself.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

Nice I really like 3,4, and 5. In 3 I just love the background but the pose looks a little to staged to me. Do you have any other poses with that same bg? I'ts beautiful colors. I love that ring shot! Very pretty!

Thanks, ya i wasn't quite sure about the soft focus look myself, but it seems fitting. The full size images don't look quite as soft either.
The wedding was on a beach in Lantzville, about 5min north of Nanaimo, it's a pretty nice little beach.

I wish i had taken some different poses with that same background, but that was it. The ring shot was actually the father of the brides idea, i thought it was a great idea so we made it work, i just had to photoshop out the tape holding up the rings afterwards, haha

I like #3 the most but they all seem rather dark to me. I expect a beach wedding to have a brighter exposure with a lot of blue and sand.

I used it for #5, #6 and #7. #1, #2 and #3 were with my rented 70-200 2.8IS, and #4 was with my 24-70.

haha, thanks. I do like my saturated colors, it may be a bit much though, not sure yet. I hope the couple likes them! Hawaii would be nice, it's a nice thought anyways :)

Do you mean the exposure seems off? or the composition, as in not enough bright beachy elements.?
