Hello all potn members!

Despite the negative feedback that I have read here...
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=356384

I have decided to post this coupon code anyway. There was a guy on that thread who did have a good experience with them so I guess not all hope is lost.

Happy shopping

I'm going through it with Abes Right now. Without going into details, I bought a Mark III, I was supposed to get it in a week; 3 weeks later I cancelled (3rd proimise to ship "this week"; They said they'd credit my card; they didn't; AMX took it off; 2 weeks later they shipped the camera. I refused it.

In the mean time I bought another one from a more reputable firm. I'm happy, they are mad.

Abe's leaves a lot to be desired. I can say I've bought from Beach, B&H, and Adorama and all are reputable and you don't have to watch them and wonder what they are going to try to do to you next. You order what you want and do not have to refuse the $800 Mack Warranty ($150 or so everywhere else); $200 UPS Ground Shipping (but you do get a FREE overnight "upgrade", so its only about 2X what you should pay), and everyother accessory in the book........

Price isn't everything, REPUTABLE DEALERS are all within 5% or less of each other, if you can't afford 5%, you shouldn't buy it...............

PS: This a RANT against ABES and in no way REFLECTS ON THE PRIOR POSTER HerbZkim

The question is not about affording the 5%, its more about wanting to pay extra for the same items. I am sure you can afford to paypal me over $10 right now, but why would you? When all else is equal, it's the vendor with the cheapest price that gets the business.

Let me clarify this a bit.

If you find prices clustered within 5% of each other, you can assume the dealers are reputable, at least as far as their pricing is concerned.

If you find a dealer discounting something 30% under the market price, there is a reason to be suspicious. AND you should be suspicious.

When you are dealing with reputable dealers, and are within the group where there is a 5% or so variance, then you need to make a decision about who to buy from. Maybe time is not a problem and the one who has the item on backorder and will have it in 2 weeks and is at the bottom of the price range is a better deal for you. If you need it tomorrow before 10AM, the one who is charging (presumably) at the top of the range and you know by reputation will ship it overnight and get it out today is the best choice. On a $1500 item we are talking about a difference of $75 between low and high.

Once I bid on a Canon 600mm F4 IS lens, I bid $4000 on a "new lens" and as you guessed (B&H $7200) the auction never made reserve. I did get 2 emails from people with NEW 600mm lenses willing to sell them for $4000. If someone wants to sell you an item that cheap, you need to assume its a scam. No I didn't bite either.
