Looking for a P&S for my wife. Thinking of either the A710IS or the A570IS. Does anyone have an opinion on these or another camera. She just wants to point and go. We will probably be looking at another dslr next spring and she can have my xt. Thanks

Does she want controls, or small size? If size is the overriding concern, maybe one of the SD family with IS.

I don't think size is a big deal. She doesn't know what she wants and I am supposed to guess. Something with a fairly high 6+ megapixel, some zoom, and easy to use. I will look at the other series.

I bought the 710IS for my wife and she loves it. Her only complaint so far is that I spent to much. Picture quality is excellent, it has a good flash and even takes decent videos. With bios hacks you can save in raw format, play games, read text and other functions without affecting the orgional bios. I have no experience with the 570IS I am sure it is equally as good. Look at the features and compare what you need to what they offer.

The 570IS is great. I own one myself and have had no problems with it. My only complaint is the slow flash recharge.

'Other' camera comment. 'We' own an S2 and an S3 [her's and mine]. Before that 'we' each had a G-1. *I* have no problem with the vast array of junk on the S3; *She* actually did better with the more simple G-1. Maybe Your Gal learns faster/better than mine....If you 'really' need Point And Shoot...

By the way, a Pal has some Olympus and his wife insists on 'Kodial InstaMatic' type simple point and shoot; shoots everything in Auto... and the pictures would make a maggot puke...

A570 IS is a pretty good camera. Beauteful design, easy handing. The pictures taken with this camera are beauteful, clear and sharp.

I love my little SD800. It's a great little p&s. Your wife can just slip it in her pocket or purse. I carry mine everywhere I go. I not only use it for great pix of the grandkids but I also use it to take pix of sale items and compare them to online prices, sure beats writing down model numbers on grocery receipts and never finding them when you need them. I also use it for magazine articles and recipes because its great in the macro mode. In the auto mode it's even easy for my 5 year old granddaughter to take great shots too! The battery life is better than I expected and the colors really are bright and vivid.
The only thing I don't care for is the cheezy battery door. The price has come down some so it's also a great value too! Good luck in which ever you choose.
As I stated this is my everyday camera I also use a Canon S3 for when the SD800 just isn't enough. That I highly recommend also.
