They're just curious as to what you are, and totally harmless.
Think yourself lucky to have these beauties so close to hand.

Guess you should just sit there some more, and gently accept them.
You'll find that they won't harm you. Just sit still and watch them - you'll notice their eyes taking it all on board. Fantastic are Dragonflies.

Hmmm.... 1 minute is not patient enough I guess. Seriously, I have the opposite problem. Though I back up to a pond, there are not a lot of dragons flying around and they have lots of trees to settle in so even though I can be out there for quite a while, they steer clear.

YES! I am real afraid of bees, wasps and hornets for some reason. if they are flying around me i stand still but as soon as they head in my direction what so ever, I RUN! it sucks because I really want to try and get some nice close ups of the wasps around my house. those things are so restless though, that they barely stop moving and when I start trying to get up close I end up running away.
spiders are not so bad cuz they are slower. they wont chase you 50 ft just to inflict pain. bees will however, and they fly faster than I can run. I think thats why they scare me most. if they want to sting me I dont have a choice in the matter.

I wonder if anyone on here has been stung while taking photos?
anyone?

"A photograph never grows old. You and I change, people change all through the months and years, but a photograph always remains the same. How nice to look at a photograph of mother or father taken many years ago. You see them as you remember them. But as people live on, they change completely. That is why I think a photograph can be kind."

I guess the first thing to do is go after bugs that you know won't hurt you. Dragonflies, damselflies, butterflies, most regular flies (diptera) in general, grasshoppers, you get the picture. Then once you get used to harmless bugs, start chasing after things like spiders, who generally won't bite you since they can't really fly. Then once you get used to those, you can start going after bees and wasps. Even I'm still scared of wasps...I only have like 1 or 2 wasp photos in my collection :(

That's ok mn! I'm terified of both wasps and bees (anything that stings really) but I force my self to calm down when I'm shooting them.

I find that once I start shooting, my fear goes away, and I get quite excited when I see a shot about to come together! I forget all about the stinging while I'vegot my camera to my eye!
