Fabulous shots Bill. Yes, there have been a lot of hoverfly shots and it looks like you are going to get a lot more soon lol.

You can tell when they are going to lay eggs because they take more interest in leaves. They constantly fly around the leaves and usually lay their eggs where there are some small aphids, so that when the eggs hatch they have their first meal lol.

Bill, I was lucky enough to spot one doing this earlier this year, I was intrigued when I saw one around the rose leaves and curving its body, and this is what I saw

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif'


It was fascinating to see this happen. I never did see the larvae though.
