If you approach them slowly sometimes they move off slowly. This one was crossing some logs and the pink reflection on the snakes head was my friend trying to guide it so that I could photograph it. www.wildlifewales.co.uk

They can grow up to 4ft long but they are not poisonious, they just produce a nasty smelling substance which probaly makes any preditors spit them out. We only have 2 snakes over here, the Grass snake and the Adder which is poisionious. You also need a special permit to handle wild snakes for their own protection. www.wildlifewales.co.uk
