I can't get it to fire. When I press the test button the receiver lights up so the channel is good. The 430EX is set to manual mode. Am I missing something here?

You need to buy new CR2 batteries and then try. 5D Mark II + 40D | Lenses: Sigma 150-500mm BigmOS / Canon 24-105mm F4L IS / Canon 70-200 F4L IS / Canon 85mm 1.8 / Sigma Macro 70mm f/2.8 EX / Sigma 10-20mm EX / Canon 50mm f/1.8 II / Sigma 1.4x APO TC / Kenko 2x PRO300 DG. Someone's a little cynical... farrukh wrote in post #3694767 First of all check if the flash is properly seated on the receiver's shoe and then try. if problem persists then check the receiver's battery as the one provided by Cactus in the box is only for testing and mostly they come dead. You need to buy new CR2 batteries and then try. The third thing to check is that if you actually got V2 trigger or V1. as Canon flashes don't work with the V1. I have v2 and it triggers my 430ex flawlessly. I will give that a whirl tonight. Thanks!

Well I found out that it wasn't the battery. The shoe itself isn't holding the flash tight enough and it doesn't make the connection. I can press down on the flash and it goes every time.

I took the latter option with a video card once, and it still works to this day, although it probably wasn't the best course of action EOS 20D w/ BG-E2 grip

Working great too.

Its a metal shoe with an 8 inch PC cord coming out the side with a 1/4-20 hole in the bottom. I mounted the shoe to the stand with the flash on it and plug the PC cord into the receiver that I velcroed to the stand. It looks nice and keeps the flash head at about the right level for my umbrellas and has worked perfectly. 60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.
