Third match covered and I eventually got my timing right to capture the contact point.

And finally, why Short Leg can be a dangerous fielding position

It was also the best weather bright sunshine to start the day but after a few hours it did become overcast hence the change in the lighting of the photos.

C&C always welcome

Way to nail the timing! I shot a lot of baseball here in the States and struggle to consistently capture bat-on-ball contact. What do you employ to trigger your shot? Movement of the batter?

Cheers. Fortunately in cricket each batsman is normally at the wicket for quite a while. During this time you can tell a bit from their body movement whether they will play a shot or not. This helps choose when to attempt to take the photo, however it is still a fairly hit or miss (pardon the pun) technique, the number of photos I have where the ball is yet to be played or has already been hit is still much higher than the impact shots. The game lasts over 6 hours so there is always a chance of getting it right. Using single shot is the only option (i tried multiple shots but then it is pure chance if you get one good photo).
Another thing, at this level of cricket the ball is maybe traveling at 70mph so a bit slower than a pitch in baseball.

All I can say is keep practicing. Good luck.

Great shot - I have a question though did baseball originate from cricket? I was just wondering because it seems they are similar in alot of ways.

Actually, I think baseball is commonly thought to have evolved from something called "rounders":
