Day 1 of the dragon flys

Well tbh there not very good pics.i cant get my lighten right,...these things are only in the sun and i just cant get any thing right..i was there for 2hours taking pic after pic flash on flash off nothing worked..im off to have another go in sec so i thought i would post these pics of day 1 and see if i can do better today and il update the thread later..i need someones help..i just been looking at some of the other mebers dragons..alwasome..put​s mine to shame,

1 good thing that happened tho is i got over my fear of dragon flys as u can see in the pic i had a gfew land on my hand and all tho i didnt take a pic of it at one point i had 3 dragon flys on my arm. as u can see in pics i took pic of 2 on my hand but there far fomr perfect pics..sighhhh... il give it another go today,,what am i doing wrong..all pics and properties of the pics can be found in my flick gallery link in my sig,.

Lovely shots not of dragonflies but of demoiselle damselflies (jealousy) - I've never seen one of these . You need some work on composition of shots (straight down is not normally good) but good shots none the less.

As Brian says they're demoiselles, banded demoiselles to be precise, and in my experience these can be the most skittish, ornery creatures around to photograph, so the fact that you've managed to get in amongst them has put you at a big advantage. As for the photos, the 'jaws' pic is quite impressive. Apart from that one, I think you're trying to do too much at once, not least shooting one-handed! To start with at least, try to line up the insects' bodies parallel to the plane of focus to make the most of the narrow depth of field. You can try other angles to see if they work later. If you're hand holding your camera then try to prop your elbows on something to steady yourself. Get down level with an insect when shooting for more intimate pictures.

#2 is the best shot. Agree with eccles try not to run before you can walk. It's all to easy to be tempted to shot every witch way, but you have to get the basics right first then branch out.

well consider yourself lucky to get that many around i haven't even gotten on decent shot yet. they don't look that bad to me either.
