Okay, I know this is a Canon forum...but there's lot's of good information about qflashes on here.

I'm in the process of switching over to qflashes from 550/580EX's. I've come across a qflash T4d for $425 and it seems like a decent deal. My other option is to get all new T5d-r's from BH for $520 each. The new T5d-r's seem to have more options and benefits than the T4d offers.

My question is two part really. Is $425 a good price for a T4d and is the new T5d-r worth the extra $95?

I shoot mostly outdoors doing action sports photography, portraiture, lifestyle shots, etc. I plan to use these on camera and as remotes.

Thanks for your help!
Dave

You saw a T5D-r at B&H for $520? Mind providing a link to it, please. The cheapest I've found it there is around $602.

Sorry I can't help with your other question but if I had to make a choice, I'd go with the T5D-r only because it's a newer model and give your more options/features over the older model (not that the older model can't be upgraded, though).

Went back to check the link and I made a mistake. The Turbo 2x2 is $520 and the T5d-r is $609.

T4d is older firmware on, I believe, exactly the same hardware as a T5d-R. A T4d can be upgraded to T5d-R specification, but that wipes out the cost savings.

I'd go for the T5d-R - for example, only the T5d-R works with the Qnexus adapter. That may be useful for you, especially during your changeover - 580EX on camera (or on bracket) as a fill light and wireless E-TTL master, Qflash / Qnexus on a stand as key light and wireless E-TTL slave.

Even if you're not interested in Qnexus, there are other features that are only available in the T5d-R. There's a full comparison chart at the bottom of page 2 of the Qflash 5d-R manual (external link).
