Some recent whole flower closeups. Still find these much harder than bug shots. Normally resort to bits of flower or dewdrop refaction shots to make them "interesting".
Appreciate some critical comment.
ps did sneak in one bug which is a triple exposure type shot

Very interesting. I usually don't like flowers as they are so commonly used for macro shots. ;) But you managed to make them different by capturing the droplets of water and working ants. My favorites are number 3 and 4 (crawling ants). Thanks.

I think #3 and 5 are the best here #2 the bud in front of the flower is quite distracting, maybe shooting it from the left side as it looks clearer. Not a great fan of roses, I like them best shot close with a Gaussian blur layer to soften them. #1 is my least favorite here Brian, I think it has just too much going on and no real focal point. All nicely focused.

3 and 5 for me also, with 5 winning the vote.

The stamens and lighting give this 'zip'. I quite like the bug shot, but the lighting is too flat in the rest.

Note: All the above is heavily qualified by the statement "I'm no expert." ;)

#5 for me, don't like oof areas in #2 as they distract from main subject. Leaf top right in #6 similarly annoying.

Thanks for the comments all- very much appreciated :)
Think I'm coming to the conclusion whole flowers are a bit like too much hard work (at least in situ shots).

nice to see some shots from a bit further back. one thing that bugs though, most of the flowers arent fully in focus. some make it work but others it kills. like the second to last one would be a lot better if the whole flower was in focus imo. #3 is great it just looks so juicy i want to eat it.

I think 5 and 6 are the best of the bunch - #5 being the best of course and 6 simply being an ok mug shot.

They arent easy and although Ive done a lot of flower shots in the past, I have found that in most cases, the angle and how the light is falling on the flower when you take the pic of the flower is the key. Funnily enough, the ones I prefer most that I have taken, have been with my 70-200 F4L

This shot is a very simple flower, but the light on it made it, and one of my favs, taken 2 years ago

This isnt a flower but its just plain and simple, which again works well I think

Thanks Linda and Jay for looking and commenting. I suspect the main problem I have with these is that I don't have enough interest in this type of shot to really try too hard- maybe when I'm even older :)

3,4,5 all catch my eye. :) Shooting flowers... so hard to do IMO. Compostion is an nightmare. I think you nailed the shots I mentioned. The colors are great and they hold your attention. Well done! Hatch
