this is for uk members but would like feedback from all
ive just ordered a lens off a uk web dealer.
it was a Nikon for a friend but it could cause problems for anyone buying canon stuff
the lens was £200 cheaper than all other dealers
the price was £779 plus £8 postage.
i put it in the basket and went to the checkout total showed £787.
it came next day, the invoice in the box said £801 and the postage was showing £22
i emailed them to find out why. he responded saying that anything over 2kg carries a postage cost of £22 including insurance and that it stated this on the web site.
i looked and eventually found a link regarding posage and it said items over 2kg would cost £22, it was very hard to find this link.
i emailed back saying that the postage should have been shown in the total price at the checkout, this is what happens on other web sites.
when it says total that is the price i expect to pay.
nowhere on the page does it state that the lens is over 2kg.
ive sent other e mails but he his still saying that the postage costs are shown on the web site.
ive posted a link to the lens in question. pop it in to the basket and go to the checkout and please post your comments

Hi. I've nearly been caught out with the same poor advertising. Amazon have a link which directs you to their various postal charges which is honest and above board.... but some of the Photo mags advertise prices that on much closer inspection are more expensive.

If when you went to check out the total cost was less than you have beencharged you may have some come back on the company even if they have small print. The final total cost should be made available on check out not after you receive the goods with a final bill.

I have also tried to place an order, for example with warehouse express, listing all the items I wanted to buy only to be told the prices on their website are not accurate. Needless to say I didn't buy from them.

Buyer beware and all that I'm afraid.

Well, I went to your link. Assuming the lens you purchased is the Nikon 200mm F4D ED-IF AF Micro-Nikkor, when I clicked on the "Add to Cart" button, it showed "Delivery within the U.K. £8". I would print that page and use it as a part of my argument.

Last time I checked, "delivery" meant from their door to yours, and £8 is less than £22.

See! Americans aren't ALWAYS wrong!

What's your weather like today?

I had a friend in Liverpool with whom I did a lot of communication via Telex in the old days. He always began his Telexes by asking what my weather was like. Mostly, I would Telex back "Sunny and calm" (which it usually was). He would then say it was raining, or drizzling, or snowing, or some other overly wet condition.

One day I commented, "You always have bad weather."

He replied, "That's not true! We have several nice days a year!"

I have got a lens in the past from them and all was OK, although it was under the 2Kg limit.

I would have a clear problem if they did not show the correct amount in the checkout as this is what forms your contract with them; any argument about clauses on the web site I think are irrelevant.

In effect they have taken more from your credit card than you have authorised, this could be fraud.

Things to check:

1) Do you have a print of the final check out?
2) Did you receive a confirming email, if so what did this show for the postage?

You might want to contact your local trading standards officer and discuss it with him.

Also you should talk to your credit card company, if the purchase is over £100 they have joint liability with the supplier under they consumer credit act I think it is. They will expect you to try and sort it out with the suppler but if you have exhausted that route you can get them to put pressure on.

If they sent you a confirming email showing £8 shipping, then that's what you should have paid. Otherwise, it was not a confirmation, it was an estimate. They're simply ripping you off.

Go to your trading standards people, call your bank.

It sounds as if the cheapest priced stores in the New York area, who practice a number of deceptive tactics to lure in business and then use markups like high shipping or selling you things that should be included (batteries, lens caps), have opened their branch offices in the UK!

LOL up to now ive not had a problem with any uk online retailer. but it looks like these guys think we are mind readers
with all the technology these days you would think there web site would be able to update the price at the checkout.
by the way i checked the nikon web page and found the lens weighs 1190 grams and not 2 kilos. it come with a nice hard case but im sure that doe s not take it above 2 kilos
