Both shot with my Canon Pro1.

The first is a strange grasshopper that I shot the other day. It was 'wet' looking, had what looked like little fingers around the mouth. It was unlike any I've seen.

The second shot is that of a damselfly. I posted a shot a few days ago of one that sat down on my shooting finger as I was shooting, and I didn't get a chance to get a shot of it. Well here is a shot that turned out nice. I wish I could have gotten the entire damselfly in the frame, maybe next time.

Please feel free to critique and edit my photos.

Thanks.

Congrats on the damselfly. Fun little insects to photograph. Well done. Hatch

Pete, are you in the UK? If so, your local wildlife trust or the British Dragonfly Society would appreciate a copy of that damselfly photo plus any others that show the wingtips more clearly. And if it's still around you might want to try to get some more shots. The reason is that I'm pretty certain that it's a Southern Emerald Damselfly. You can tell by the two colour pterostigma on the wingtips. They're a rare UK immigrant. I spotted one last year and people were very interested to know about it.

Eccles, I'm in Canada.

Oh, right. I don't know how common they are in North America but if you want to make enquiries its scientific name is "lestes barbarus". Amazing how they get around!
I agree with Bill's suggestion that the grasshopper is a katydid - we call them bush crickets over here (not the same as American bush crickets) just to be confusing. :) Grasshoppers have shorter thicker antennae.
