And the dragonfly is still smiling - he's a natural. :)

Looks like the old adage of never working with kids and animals doesn't apply to insects...

I agree with Alby, nice insight, You should tell the dragon to clean up after itself, looks like body parts on the wood under its chin.:D

Thanks for the comments - good fun and an interesting experience but quite tiring. It was a pretty hot day not brilliant for bugs but did bring the dragonflies out who performed brilliantly. They were here for about 6 hours actually shooting or doing voice overs. Some intro shots and pans of the environment then spot the insect (I'd already located some nice ones) work out an angle then I was shooting them with some comments on what I was doing. Did make some of the shots interesting as I was pretty restricted on what angle I could shoot from. The other minor problem was the bugs had to be fairly large for their camera to pick them up. But had a male and female common darter then a Hawker DF flew in. Then just a hoverfly, bush cricket and the spider.
They are making a pilot with 3 photogs- I was the first, that I suspect were chosen on Flickr all of who take slightly "odd" photos they've got to do another in France and one in Iceland. Whether it will get aired on TV I'm not sure. But I was promised a DVD of the final thing with a version suitable for Utube posting.
No damage to the garden- at one point the "director" was cleaning up the garden a bit for a shot - he'd become fixated on a pineapple shell that was sitting there (I use them as slug destroying traps) but there was some other bits of rubbish near it :)

Hiya Brian,

Excellent stuff, super DF shot, mind you I don't think I could handle that lot peering over my shoulder when I was trying to shoot, look forward to seeing the end results !!

Cheers for now

Thanks Mark :)
Think the DF was the first time I'd seen those inner mouthparts- suspect it had just spat out the remains of a midge.

I had actually taken a lot of dewdrop shots before they arrived :) but they were just interested in shooting bugs although they have got a dewdrop shot for a still. Ie their camera had to be able to see what I was shooting, so only large bugs. Not sure I'd like a video with me on all fours with me bum in the air anyway :)

Thanks Dave- good to see you popping in every now and then :)
Hopefully I will find the video useful as I'm not actually certain what I do when I'm taking shots.
