You could get the 35 and the 85/1.8 for the price of the 85L. That's what I'd do.

The only thing I would mention is if your doing tight crop shots of head or head and shoulders with the 30D/35L, you may get some distortion close up compared to a 50mm or 85mm lens doing the same FOV.

If the prime is for head and shoulder type photos then a 50mm or 85mm prime might be more appropriate

Here's an example of the difference 30D/35L @ f1.4
