I just picked up a Burton Distortion Pack at Marshall for $25. Nice backpack that can carry a 15" laptop, big main compartment and a ton of pockets.

It was made for skater so there are 2 straps in the front to strap skateboards that I'm sure can be used to strap a tripod.

I'm thinking of getting some Domke inserts to help with carry the camera and some lenses.

Has anyone try this with a regular backpack? I've seen Domke inserts used with messenger bags but not backpack.

The bag look like this but in RED :)

Yep - get one of the square ones, or a combination one; I've used the 720-240 or 720-233 (3-compartment combi). I need to look at the 720-245 (wide angle) insert too - should be happier with the 100-400 and hood. I've used them with an assortment of daypacks and rucksacks.

Thanks Jon, how do you put the 20D with the 70-200 into the insert, lens points down? Was it with the grip too?

I want to do the same for the 1D and the 70-200 too, but if it's not doable, then I probably get the 720-240 for the 70-200 and mount the 24-70 to the camera. The 240 allows me to bring the 300/f4 or smaller primes.

Do you think the 210 will fit the 1D with lens? I may get this and the 240 if they both fit in the bag.

I found your answer in another post. It looks like the 211 may be better :)

I've yet to find a backpack designed for camera equipment that I like. Recently I took a North Face Recon daypack and fitted with an old Tenba shoulder bag I had and worked fairly nice hiking for 6 days. Lots of pockets for accessories and stuff too.

tsmith, that's exactly what I found too. Most of the camera bags with laptop sleeves do not have much room for anything else and they are too bulky.

My friend has the Lowepro Computrekker AW and while it's nice and can carry alot, I can not put a jacket, some lunch into it and not having it bulk out like I'm carrying a mini frdge on my back.

I like the Kata 103 too and will probably get it if nothing else works, but it falls into the same caveats as the Computrekker AW.

I've looked into something like this a bit, and I found that Crumpler offers "bucket" bags on their site that are designed to fit into some of their other bags. I have a Kelty overnight pack, and have been considering this option to fit inside that for when I'm hiking/camping. It might work ok for your application as well?

Well keep an eye on mine thats up for sale if you decide on the 103.

I'm seriously considering getting an Osprey backpack in the future. They have a mesh shock absorb design for your back that is amazingly comfortable. Kinda have to fit it like I have my North Face at the moment.

I've put the 3 compartment insert into my daily carry messenger bag, works great and is removable for those times when I don't want to carry the camera in that bag, or want to carry other stuff in the bag.

nebular, when I'm packed up with a camera and a few lenses, my Micro Trekker 200 bag doesn't have room for jacket, food, snacks, etc...

Tsmith, I'll keep that in mind if I decide to go with the 103 :)

nadtz, that's what I'm planning to get too a 3-comps and a big square one.

Another thing I'd like to add is this backpack is really comfortable. The shoulder harness is large but not bulky and the way handle on top designed, it rests against your neck and kinda give it some support. I like it.

I think it's a great pack just for walking around as well, not necessarily for camera related stuffs. If you can find it cheap, get it.
