POTN Speed Challenge # 84 - At Water's Edge
RESULTS!
First I want to thank everyone for the great response to this challenge. There were so many excellent photos that one could almost pin them up on a wall, throw darts to pick the top three, and nobody would deny the lucky ones deserved a place.
So please understand that if your photo does not appear in the top three, then it doesn’t mean it wasn’t an a excellent shot that might easily have been chosen as a winner by another judge with slightly different tastes. So here goes…
FIRST- Micky Daeus: “Lake Birrabeen”. There were many other more dramatic, spectacular, or picturesque entries but I kept coming back to this simple, well composed shot as it has a bit of mystery about it. “What is he thinking…” or “I remember days like that…”. Congratulations and good luck setting and judging the next one!
SECOND – Edd S: “Photographer at the Water’s Edge”. I’m sure we’ve all been there, done that, at one time or another concentrating on getting that perfect sunset shot, and you caught the mood perfectly.
THIRD – Paul B: “Morning and a Snag in the Ohio River”. There is just the right amount of mist in this so one can almost feel the damp, cool air of a riverside morning.
This time, I’m going to pass on commenting on each of the other entries. First, there are so many, and second I really hate trying to tell people why their fine photos didn’t quite make it. But you nearly all had winners this time!
I do want to commiserate with Mishnogram, though, for having his “Balancing On The Edge” spoiled by what I assume was a smudge on the lens. It would have been right up there as a winner but despite the clever p.p. work there was still too much blurring on the right.
Finally, guys… READ THE RULES! Despite making an extra effort when posting this challenge to draw attention to the few simple rules so that entries wouldn’t have to be disqualified due to wrong image size or file size, there were still two photos way under the mandatory 800 pixels rule, and two way over the maximum file size of 200K – one was 526 K! Sorry about that, but check your photos – you’ll see what I mean. Oh, and there was one photo that the EXIF info says was NOT taken with a Canon at all despite what the photographer said.
***************
The transition zone between water and land is often both interesting and photogenic, whether it be the intertidal zone at the edge of the sea, a marsh at the edge of a pond, or the banks of a river. You may even find inspiration at the edge of a roadside mud puddle.
The top places will go to well composed photos clearly showing they were taken at or very near the water's edge - a glimpse of distant sea won't cut it!
Please read all the rules and adhere to them. It would be a shame to be disqualified because of something small such as no title or wrong size
