Does the subject in macro shot need to be entirely in focus?

I work for a college and thought about taking a few classes in the photo dept (I get them for free being an employee) but the "pros/professors" here can be real mean and not in a helpful way. They want the students to shoot like them and nothing else will get a good grade! So nope, I'll keep learning from this site and books and from making mistakes and learning how to correct them.

Don't let some "pro" get you down. The guys here are so nice and helpful, just listen to their advice.

And I like your shot!! It's great for someone who has only been doing this for two weeks!!

Hiya Pete.mod,

As is always the case it's difficult to read/interpret the way things were said, but if this person spoke to me the way I've interpreted he spoke to you then he'd be sitting on his arse with a sore nose, what a bighead bugger he sounds saying his shots were so amazing, don't you just love people like that

We can all improve whatever level we're at, sounds like his interpersonal relationship skills need some honing

Apologies if my language offends but folks like him/her really me off !!

You carry on as your doin just fine, this is the best place IMHO to get the best advise ever needed.

I've looked at your shots & you've got some very good ones !!
only feel disappointed if the disappointment comes from within not because some Big Headed Smart Arse thinks he know best, coz he doesn't !! if I were you I'd review his tenancy when next it's up for renewal.

Phew I feel better for that rant

Cheers for now
Mark

Pete, its not that bad a shot, as for looking at his shots and seeing all the detail in them I wonder? when he looks in the mirror does he see the 8 letters on his forehead in the same detail D**kh**d. Carry on as you are 2 weeks of shooting and producing shots like that isn't that bad at all. Like others have said, here is the place to get CC'ed, from people who put up their own work up for criticism.

This is the best place you can get advice from. Advice on macro from people that shot macro, and know what they are talking about.
For a newbie:lol::lol: that shot is damn good, don't give up it will come to you soon.
Well done.

Thank you all for your comments.

Dave,
Image stacking is something I want to try once I nail down the basics.

The pro upstairs shoots with a film SLR. I couldn't find anything of his online, but some of his wildlife photos are pretty amazing. I've never seen any of his macro work, nor did I know that he shot macro. He does like to brag and boast whenever he gets the chance about his work though (or his Pontiac Sunfire lol).

You're welcome (to the comments). I'd be doing a poor disservice to those who helped me get started in macro photography if I didn't help others. This is a good, solid community, that helps one another.

As to the bragging and boasting of said "pro" photographer, just ignore any smarta$$ comments from him. By all means, accept critique from him, but use your common sense and judgement to see where that critique is fair, and where it's just jealousy, or him showing off. I have little time for people like this 'pro' photographer.

Dave

PS Brian - love ths Damsel shot :)
