I have a Kodak point and shoot at the moment which I like to take along with me on bike rides to take video and a few shots. However the battery life on it these days is awful, drains the batteries soooooo quickly it is unbelievable. Any recommendations on a new P&S that is cheap and takes good video and half decent pics??I know its asking a lot but dont wanna spend too much for two reasons, 1 dont wanna break it if I crash and 2 (most importantly) I haven't got that big a budget at the mo lolCheers in advance Phil

Do you want to be able to set aperture and/or shutter speed yourself when needed? If you do, the only Canons that'd meet your specs are the A-series (S3, S5 and G7 aren't all that cheap). Otherwise, look at an SD model. Any of either line that take SDHC cards are capable of doing plenty of TV-quality video (up to the capacity of the card; that will give you up to 1/2 hour on a 4 GB card). Even if the model you look at can't take SDHC cards, it's still good for up to 9 min. of TV-quality video in a clip.
Do you like wide angles (use the 300D and kit lens at 18 much)? The only PowerShot that goes wider than what your 300D/kit lens can give you at 22 mm is the SD800.

Shhhhh... it's not a Canon, but I use a Casio S600 while rollerblading, a high crash potential activity.

It's by no means the greatest overall point and shoot around but when used in good conditions it's pretty good and for grab shots/video while in shakey motion it's near as good as I think most other P&S's would be.

The video quality is actually really good. I prefer it to the two Canon's I have as I'm not a big fan of motion jpeg capture. The Casio uses H.264 encoding.

And it's a very sturdy metal body that's survived a couple of indoor uncarpeted drops with no harm. No battery issues I've encountered. It lasts as long as I need it to.

I think they can be had pretty cheap now if you go with that specific model, although they also have upgraded so those would be a little more.

Before you go for the new camera, I think you have a charger problem. Fast chargers can damage batteries, or indicate they are charged when they are not. Try charging overnight with a slow charger. Also, I use Lithium AA batteries in my Canon A80, and I get hundreds of pictures. I estimate 300. Regular AA alkaline batteries give about 100, although manual focusing seems to be a killer.
