I wonder if I will go back to using a flash with macro? There is something to be said about how wonderful natural light photos look. You did a great job with these. Love the soft light.

Hiya Lester,

Excellent series of shots, #1 is my favorite, super colours & BG. I've only seen two Damsels so far this yr. on/around my pond, weird as last yr they were plentiful but then I've this with most Insect life in & around my garden this yr.

Cheers for now
Mark

Thanks everyone for the kind comments, I was lucky that the lighting was very soft, in fact quite overcast, although this forced me to turn the ISO up a lot it suited the subject. Strong sun or flash just blows these metallic type colours out with specular highlights.

By they way this species seems to be very placid, not problems getting in close with a 100mm macro.

Mark: Yes I have noticed a limited number of some species, the common blues are around and I have seen rather more common reds in proportion. I shoot damsels and dragons at Thursley NNR, this had peat fire last year so that may have effected things. For example I have seen just one Emperor dragon this year, they were dozens last year.

#1 terriffic,
#2 would do more justice with a larger image

you did well with both images, sharp, good colour, composition and lighting.
