Small copper butterfly

Hi Everyone found a new butterfly on Monday , Small Copper not rare or anything but first time I,ve seen one.
Tried a different site an old sand quarry
He was a difficult subject only wanted to perch on the ground and I had to crop the first shot as the closer shots did not have enough depth of field due to him sitting with wings half open.

Excellent shots as usual Pete - Especially the Small Copper, they can be very flighty and for some reason unsharp mask always makes them look scruffy, you've nailed it just right.

I've been using smart sharpen as recommended in the Scott kelby book it does seem to work well,

Great shots Pete. Think #2 is my favourite. We can only work within boundaries of the insect's habitat, and if the little so-and-so likes sitting on the ground...

Great series, even if the last one is not a butterfly this is my favorite, great dragonfly. Congrats

Good set Pete. Small coppers seem to favour yellow daisy type flowers so look for them on ragwort or fleabane. Once they're nectaring they're much easier to approach.
The pair of gatekeepers is a surprise as females are only fertile shortly after emerging and they've been out for some time.

Really good set. Like all of them.

Thanks for the info again Eccles I always seem to learn something when you reply to a post , I will be going back to the site if I pick a sunny morning a should find one nectaring . Did not know that about the gatekeepers theres a lot of them about this year I see a lot every time I go out.
I seem to be torn between the dragonflies and butterflies but I'm trying to get a nice shot of each of the butterfiles in our area should keep me busy for a while

I'm hoping to spend an afternoon on the moors above Vyrnwy on Sunday afternoon on a wildlife walk, should see some interesting things we did last year, hope the weather is Ok, the wildlife walk at the lake on saturday is cancelled becase of the rain
