Hi everyone,

I'm not a photographer, just an enhancer. Usually I don't get to speak to photographers regarding their intentions with an image, I just have to use my own artistic licence, and hope they're satisfied.

I'm nervous about this one, because not only has a pro photographer taken the shot, another pro is the subject!! This is the cover photo for one of the magazines I work for.

So I'm keen to hear your opinions - have I changed the original too much? I think I've made it quite striking, but is it too big a leap?

Looks a bit fake. How long did it take you to increase the saturation and bump the brightness? :p

Well First of all I would have deleted that stupid branch over his head if your ethics parameters allow for it. If it is a news shot than of course you can't but if it is editorial you may be able to. You will have the bump your contrast over the org any way just so you can see it on the news stand. I don't know how it is going to be printed and on what stock so your seps may pick more contrast and they may go a little flat. But the sunset is a bit much IMHO.

I hope this helps,

Les

I think somewhere between the two. The first one is still too flat for my liking and the second one is over done, imo. I agree about the branch too, it should go.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Ha ha! I hadn't even noticed the branch - now I can't stop looking at it! Maybe I will take it out. I'd better ask the editor first, though...

IMHO I think the best image is somewhere between the two. I would also think about a tighter crop and get rid of the top limb.

Yes, that's the sort of thing photographers always say. If you're shooting for the publishing industry, you MUST leave the cropping to us. You don't know what our requirements are re: bleed, headlines, etc.

Well, here's how it ended up. The branch has been blocked by the banner, and my lovely blue sky has been cropped. But the editors are happy with it, so that's the main thing.
