I was trying to find different bench tests for current CF cards when I came across this old article on Galbraith's site via a Google search.

March 2003 article:
CapacitySpeed RatingTypeWrite Acceleration?Expected Street Price in USShip Date
256MB40XIYesUS$140March 2003
512MB40XIYesUS$250March 2003
1GB32XIYesUS$400March 2003
2GB32XIYesUS$700March 2003
4GB32XIIYesUS$1500Q2 2003

Yes, that is One thousand five hundred dollars for a 32X 4GB card. Street price was probably just over one thousand dollars, a bargain!

I recall actually having sold a few 128mb cards for an MP3 player about five or six years ago. I recall buying 128mb cards, SD I think, about five years ago and at $150 each I thought I had a bargain.

The lesson I've learned is to hold off buying any cards until I absolutely need them.

Interesting stuff I thought I'd share.

That is crazy looking back!

Ive been soo tempted to buy them recently, however they keep dropping in price!

Even in the UK they are fairly cheap!

I just bought 2 Sony 133X 4Gig cards from Fry's this past weekend for $49 ea. That's one of the nice things about high tech.

It is crazy!

I just bought 2 Sandisk Ultra II 2GB cards at Costco for $19.95 each. Incredible! Unfortunately for most it's in store only.

I paid $115 for a 1GB CF card in Ritz in July 2005.

I paid $25 for a 4GB CF card from NewEgg in February.

I predict that in July next year, 8GB cards will be $25 apiece.

In a year, it will be $49. and the 16GB Extreme IV will be $129.

I try to make do with a little memory as possible cause I remember paying $200 for a 2GB Extreme III, which is less then half that now.

Back in May of this year, I got a 4GB Extreme III for $34.95. That was the price after the rebate, and the check came in as promised...
