Looking to get this cleared up for me...I found many people going for the promax system, though I'm afraid it won't work as well as a softbox, I think it's more for bouncing off of ceilings and such. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

Simply vote which one you would rather have over the other.

I think the LumniQuest is still harsh for shiney close up objects. I havent used it much for people shots. I have a smaller promax style bouncer that is more manageable than the LQ, or if possible, I bounce. Rubber banded blank recipe cards work about as well and you can modify them at will. Try them before you buy. You can bend them to just produce a small amount of catch/fill light while the rest bounces off of the ceiling.

If you get a softbox, get the big one (external link).

I have that and the Promax System. Comparing the softbox vs. the Promax+white insert, they are very similar in efficiency and output. Their apparent size is also about the same. Photographically, the only real difference is that the Promax gets the light source further from the lens, which is usually a good thing. The Promax would work better with a camera rotating bracket. The softbox would work better with a flash rotating bracket.

My biggest complaint with the softbox is that it tends to droop when attached to the flash. This problem can be solved by stapling the corners together or adding velcro strips to the corners to stiffen it up.

If you're choosing between, get the Promax. It's more versatile with the various inserts.

The softbox is a bit more specialized and I think would be a great piece of kit for a macro shooter.

Ooh, I didn't even notice there was a "big" version of the promax softbox. I thought this mini softbox is the same as the one you linked to. The one I'm thinking of is here (external link)

I have often made the same recommendation. :D

The Promax System is always in my bag, but I use my simple bounce card more.

CurtisN is pretty much right on. My softbox doesn't actually leave the house.

I've actually been using "A Better Bounce Card" I made with the same "official" material I found at a local store. It's not exactly the best method for me as a diffuser, though...

i recently ordered both of these, if i had to choose between 1 , i would choose the Lumiquest Promax System since it has silver card, gold card, a soft card, a normal card which refflects 100 % of the light, and a 80 20 , which sends 80 % of the light to the ceiling, and 20 to the subject ( good for sending light to eyes and stuff ).
