Has anyone tried shooting IR with an unmodified 1DS 2 or the 300D.
Surely the blocking filter would preclude decent results.
I have tried the test with a TV remote control and the IR signal does not register indicating that the filter is blocking the signal and therefore wouldn't allow IR to pass. I did the same test with a Sony F707 and this seems sensitve to IR as the signal is clearly seen but not so with the Canons.

Any comments

PS I see I'm down as a junior member. Some of you guys then must be really old!

CaptainPete,
I don't have the two cameras you refer to, but I have gotten many good IR photos with my 10D (bigger brother of your 300D) and my 5D using a Hoya R72 IR filter. The trick is long exposures :)
Here on this page I have a quick explanation of IR photos with my Canon DSLR cameras <-- click to see (external link)
