I like those. Very natural looking. My IR-XT arrives in a day or two from them. I can't wait for fast shutter speeds!

I used an R72 for a while but that got old fast. Long shutter speeds on windy days made life difficult and the noise from high ISO and 9 second shots wasn't my preference.

Forget shooting people too. With the camera converted you can shoot like normal and see through the lens like any other camera. Conversion is the way to go if you have anything more than a passing interest in IR.

I also used an R72, for a while, but found shot set-up, and PP very time consuming.

R72 setup is a pain in the field. All infrared digital needs post processing, especially if you don't custom white balance in the field. A good white balance really takes away a lot of the work. Another thing to do is watch the red channel if you have an RGB histogram. (i wish this XT had one...another reason ide love a 5D-IR) Making sure the red channel doesn't clip will give much better results. Again something quickly adjusted in raw processing.

I personally love processing my IR stuff. I feel thats where the image is truly made.

Some of those are processed, some are barely modified. There is such much room for creativity in IR beyond the usual foliage, graveyard, and water shots. Next month I will be doing some surf photography in IR. Should be interesting.

Actually converting the camera, or buying one preconverted. Maxmax.com or lifepixel.com are the first two that come to mind. Basically the open the camera up, remove the filter infront of the sensor and replace it with a different one. Several options are available at this point. I chose one that is straight ahead infrared light only. That means I cannot take visible light (normal) photos at all. The camera becomes sensitive to IR light only but I can take pictures and expose as if I am working in normal light. Fast shutters, view through the lens, no filters, etc... There are some options to be able to do both normal and IR light, but then you need filters infront as well. Also some IR variations that lifepixel offers that build upon the IR only concept.

Nice, Dennis! Very nice!

Question? ... That's right out of the camera? No filter needed? Hand held?

I'm assuming you went with "Standard" conversion? I think I'm going for "Deep B&W"

I'm about to have my 10D converted but I keep balking because I am confused. I guess I should spend some time at LifePixel.com
