These are super looking dragonflies, which we don't get here in the UK unfortunately. Nice shot Crypto.

Fabulous image, beautiful colour, composition sharpness.

Are you sure its a green darner though? I have always wished we had these in the UK and had a link to some pics of them - the link with these pics shows a different colour to yours, but maybe there are variations of them, but thought you might like to see the link. I would be interested in your thoughts on it too.

thanks for all the comments.

Linda - It sure doesn't look like the one you posted, does it. I may be wrong. I looked in my book and thought it was a green darner.

If anyone know, let us know.

Thanks

I've just checked my dragonfly guide which backs up Linda's evidence. The green darner is an occasional UK vagrant, and is a hawker dragonfly rather like the European emperor. Judging by the 'smile' on the posted pic this one is similar to the European darters. (Hawkers are far too self important to smile. ;) ) U.S. and Canadian experts required please?

Wonderful shot and colour - does look like a darter rather than a hawker DF.

Interesting isnt it :D I reckon it could be under the group of 'Clubtails' which are similar shape and size to a hawker. I only have the DF of Britain and Europe book, but it does have a fair amount of info in it and pics which will at least guide me to tracing a particular species. Hope someone can positively ID it, if not, when I get time I must do some research lol - its such a gorgeous one I would like to know which one it is purely out of curiosity.

LOL eccles, love your interpretation of a hawker being far too self important to smile   - so true lol
