Had my first Error 99

Shooting a friends wedding today and had the first one and hopefully last. Did the ceremony and then was doing group shots before the reception. Was just about done and had the Sig 17-70 on and she locked up. Shut everything off and it stayed on. Turned the camera back on and had the error 99. I thought I was screwed. Took out the battery and reseated the lens and everything was OK from then on. Sure wasn't a good feeling when it happened but I'm just glad it cleared up.

Error 99 is mentioned a LOT with Sigma lenses. I havent been following things too close lately but they were doing free firmware upgrades.

I even get it with my Canon lenses once in a while. At least you know the procedure. Pop out the battery and get back to shooting.

I had my first Error 99 on my 1D Mark II yesterday. The first time that camera has done it in over 100,000 frames. Popped the battery and off it went again, good as gold. Lens was a 70-200/2.8L IS USM. People make too much of Error 99s. dSLRs are just computers and they crash from time to time. It happens. Be grateful they're not made by Microsoft or it would happen a lot more.

I had my first two the other day when I was first trying out a 17-40L.. ended up costing me a battery as I dropped one onto rocks whilst changing but hey, the camera appears to be working fine again after that so I'm not overly concerned. Just so long as it doesn't do it and break on my coming trip away...

So.. the problem will just go away after changing the battery?

Maybe. Mine have gone away after taking the batteries out and putting them back in.

Mine had error 99 yesterday with my 24-70. I had to take both batteries out of the grip and wait like 30 seconds for the red light to finally go out. it was fine after that.

My first 30D which was two days old would not stop even after a few days of no battery, Lucky they replaced it with a new one

It can happen that it never gets out of it!

god... think about that if it's already out of warranty and the issue is not going away...
Guess that's why buying extended waranty or switch to newer models with full warranty can be good choices...

Had my first one last week. Thanks to POTN, there was no panic. Just removed the grip and the internal battery and voila! Fixed!!

Pah, amatures, I had my first error99 15mins after I got my 350D. Turns out my Siggy 75-300mm was not compatible at anything other than wideopen (and soft as muck).
