Hello all

I just got a 5D and 24-70 today (Saturday) and not sure about the lens quality. I took this shot at 70mm, 2.8, from about 24 feet away in the shade. I was focused on the little papaya tree directly across from the wilted leaf on the left.

To me, the image appears front focused and I see an unusual dark reddish brown 'halo' effect on both wilted leaves and their stems.

I am looking for help to better determine whether or not this is a lens issue. I did take another picture at f/5.6 and the 'halo' was still visible but considerably less.

Doesn't look like a very good shot to judge your lens by. It's a tough shot by any standand due to the high contrast and the camera could've been easily "confused" on the focus point. I see some CA but I wouldn't say it's a fault, due to the high contrast of the scene. Maybe you could post a few more samples?

Can't tell a thing from that shot.
Put a newspaper page up on a wall, but the camera on a tripod and see how the newsprint turns out.

I plan on taking more shots tomorrow - totally forgot about newspaper on the wall idea (D'oh) and it is an easy one. I wasn't expecting CA to be that color and it did not occur with my 28-135 (that this lens replaced) or any of my former system.

I realize this is a small picture in the post and that is why I included the link to see the original.

Thank you for taking the time - much to do tomorrow
Peace
Mark
