Marbled White butterfly, Melanargia galathea. This one has a red mite infestation which quite a lot of the butterflies in this location did.

Hi Lester Lovely shots the second is my fave the yellow flower sets them off nicely too

Lovely pics! I dont see many of these round my way, just saw a fleeting glimpse of one a month or so ago but it was far too busy to land. Would love to get a better view of one myself.

That's a female. They're browner than the males and the fat abdomen full of eggs gives this one away. I've surprised to see them still around in Hampshire as they've been gone from my area for several weeks. Well captured. :)

Eccles: Special thanks for the heads up on the female, I was trying to work out gender but could not get a firm conclusion. The shots was taken a few weeks ago (19th July) so with the weather lately I expect they have gone now.
