Do you think Canon will drop the price on their current 5D prior to the release of its "replacement" early next year? I would really like a full frame, but have been holding off in hopes of not having take out a second mortgage on my home.

I don't think they have, or it would have been all over the boards. Step back please... I'm armed with a camera...

The 1D3 didn't cause the 1Dmk2n to drop by much if it even dropped at all, and the 20D didn't either from what I remember when the 30D was announced. Aug 19, 2007 13:32 | #10 I'm pretty sure it will be called a 5D still with some number added? Don't they pull the older model off the shelves when the new ones come out anyway? You'd think they'd want to put them on sale, especially around x-mas, to get rid of the old. Cleo

cicopo Goldmember More info | Aug 19, 2007 15:20 | #14 That plus popularity may be the key factor to discounts. Something desirable but with limited inventory doesn't need to have a price cut, but if inventories at the manufacturing & distribution centers are high then discounts will be needed to clear them. I doubt they would scrap them to make people buy the newer model. A skill is developed through constant practice with a passion to improve, not bought.

When the Mark III was released B&H had the Mark IIN's for around $3,299.00. That about a drop of $1,200 from the MSRP. Of course at that price the sold out pretty quick. Especially with the AF problems people were talking about with the Mark III. JBF
