I may have got this wrong but I'm sure I read that Sigma are doing a HSM version of this lens for Nikon... but I didnt read about Canon.

Will a Canon version follow?

Do Sigma tend to make Nikon mount lenses first?

I'm also sure it said something about 18-50 getting HSM again for Nikon.

And I found this info after googling and cant recall the site it was on, sorry

R

dpreview had a story on it a few weeks ago.

I imagine the Canon variants will be released by the end of the year.

Yes, they are doing HSM for Nikon. No Canon versions are intended yet as far as I'm aware. The reason they are being done for nikon bodies is for D40/D40x cameras, which lack the built in focus motor that most other nikon bodies have, and thus lens choices aren't too wide.

It is not really HSM, as in, USM-like, it's just an AF motor, micro or AFD, built into the lens, like they do for Canon. So, you're not missing out on anything.

Kind regards, Wim

5D Mk II & EOS 5 (analog) with a gaggle of primes & a solitary zoom, OM-D E-M1 Mk II, Pen-F & Panasonic GM5 with 11 primes, 8 zooms, 3 Metabones adapters/speedboosters, and an accessory plague

micro USM?

real USM works via a ring motor which directly moves the elements i believe, where as microUSM is just a motor linked to some gears which move the elements.

it's real HSM in these lenses so they will have a higher price tag (Sigma will be selling both nonHSM and HSM versions of 17-70 f2.8-4.5, 18-50 f2.8, 18-200 OS and 55-200 f4-5.6 in Nikon mount, but only non HSM in Canon mount).

Using: Canon 70d, Canon 50d, 135 2 USM L, 50 1.8, Sigma 10 2.8 HSM EX fisheye, Sigma 180 2.8 AP✿ macr✿, Sigma 18-35 1.8 ART, Nikon D5500
