I've just recently noticed that when I save a photo for the web usign CS3, the color saturation decreases quite a bit. In the preferences settings in CS3 there's a box for "Desaturate by 20%". When I select this the view in CS3 is identical to the web, or any other viewing program. My concern now is that I now have to increase the saturation a little more than before, and this may throw my printing off.

Does anybody have any experience with this checkbox in CS3?

It's under EDIT > COLOR SETTINGS. Then click on More Settings.

So far it's making photoshop a little more true to my printing and web posting. Still not sure why though, or if it's even a good idea to have selected.

Knew I had seen that just wasn't sure where. Mines unchecked but I don't see any noticeable difference in opening an image using the sRGB color for CS3 or Internet Explorer.

Don't tick the box, have a read in the link from my sig about Color Management, the different appearence of images in different apps, and save for web.

Sounds like you are posting aRGB pictures on the web. They will look dull and washed out. If you are editing in aRGB you need to go to EDIT/Convert to Profile and convert to sRGB.

Also, if your monitor is calibrated with something like a Spyder2 then your color aware applications could look totally different than non aware apps such as the web.
