i would of just walked away and keep walking, and just ignore him. if he insist put the camera away, and still keep on walking. then i would be like "did you know that every second you fallow me around, your losing money?"

who knows if you walk around long enough with him around you, you might end up going by a cop, and then just tell them your situation and let them handle it! do they know photographer rights?

Trust me, only photographers know photographers rights. Nobody else gives a damn. Cops, security guards, etc.

What official document actually states these 'rights'? Excuse the layman photographer (me).

Oooh... Niiiice. It's nothing but an essay written by an alleged attorney at law (not official)... but it does make some pretty good points.

If someone has threatened, intimidated, or detained you because you were taking photographs, they may be liable for crimes such as kidnapping, coercion, and theft. In such cases, you should report them to the police.

I wish there was a law passed by Congress specifically protecting photographers. But it seems like they're only making it harder for public photographers.

True it's not the law library.

Agreed.... actually what I have not seen that book or the essay do is site specific case law references. jim bob vs Mary Joe, where Mary Joe was not found not to have any expectation of privacy prancing around central park in her tye dye tutu....

Shockingly lacking in all the references I have read on the forum here.

Don't want to get into all that but, your assumption is not totally correct about sidearms.
