I wish there was a law passed by Congress specifically protecting photographers. But it seems like they're only making it harder for public photographers.

I'd rather see a law that covers what we can and can't do. While I think the way it is now, no assumed privacy while in public, the papperazzi have really given us all a bad name. Some legal control over those freaks would be very well accepted by the rest of humanity, I'm sure.

Nice! I was actually thinking along the lines of an editorial in the Tribune, with the picture, advocating rights of photographers. Then, Ill take the editorial with the picture and, after watching his show, taking another picture of him and instead of tipping him, Ill give him a free copy of the editorial with the picture.

Good shot 1080! I would have put my camera back in my bag and give him a whoopin' he will never forget. =) I've never run into that situation before but, there are some photogs that I've run into that carry pepper spray in there vest pocket. =)

That's a great idea, the public editorial section of the Tribune. Give us a heads up when you send it so we can look for it!

I bet there are enough POTNers in or passing through Chicago that it could be done....

There have been several of this type on SF's fishermans wharf. I was up there about ten years ago when the rage was to have these "performers" jump out from behind the bushes at the tourists.

One day the nut job picked the wrong tourist, an 80 year old Japanese lady, and an instructor of Budo. She had an umbrella with her and knocked him out cold. Me and the group I was with saw the whole thing. One shot to the leg as soon as he jumed out, when he reached down in pain the next blow right to the noggin, out go the lights. Then she circled him for about 30 sec to see if he got bck up. I have never seen anything like it in my ife and she got applause from about 100 people that were watching this guy.

It made the papers for a day or two. I thnk this was Sept or Oct of 96.

Too funny,

Les

bummer about the compostion. :)

but cool story!

who cares about what you did to shut him up? a lot of people like to talk tough but you got him off your back and didn't hurt each other. that's more impressive than spouting off your body weight.

yep,its alot easier to avoid trouble than to get out of it.

I had a similar incident happen to me in Victoria, B.C. It was the weekend after Princess Diana died and they had made a make-shift memorial in town. Well, I just took a couple of shots of the memorial and some freak came after me yelling that I was just like the ones who killed her..... I asked him if he really thought I was a paparazzi and he kept yelling stuff, so all 5 foot and 100 pounds of me stood up in front of him and told him to "Bite Me".... well, he rode off on his bike in a huff, and I got the shots I wanted...:lol::lol:

Some people just don't think of **** slapping an obnoxious loudmouth as trouble. Some of them even carry cameras.
