The spider was sitting on one leaf and was covered by another. I had the flash heads on a Really Right Stuff flash bracket and one of the heads was blocked by the top leaf (I was using that flash head to illuminate the background so it didn't matter that the leaf was blocking it from lighting the spider).

Those get into our house alot, I am scared to death of them. Didn't really want to even open this post to see the pictures but wanted to make sure it was the same type of spider I was seeing. Now I'm still not sure because I don't get that close to them, lol. And yes, they are the size of the palm of your hand for sure!

awh snap! I cannot stand spiders, no idea why...but I hate them you all have some cojones for getting that close, although I am into Macro, I will NEVER photograph spiders this close, I will stay at least 3 feet away with 1 foot raised in case the Stomp has to come into play, Crouching tiger hidden dragon style.
