(You’re GOOD!) Theft is an absolute violation, as a victim of ALL kinds of theft, from the fruit in my office lifted by the cleaning crew to items from the walls in my house, I can tell you, even when using another finger on the hand to point, there is no outlet or escape from disappointment in the fellow being. The Internet is about right-click save as. (One could disable that on a site, couldn’t block screen capture though, yet) The music industry is battling, though I’ve recorded songs from the radio since I was 8. The movie industry is battling, though I’ve video tapped and DVRed shows and movies since those technologies existed. So while I’ve blocked FULL profit from the creators I haven’t gained profit myself, and haven’t done anything that most would not have done. Everyone else is doing it, it must be okay, right? I think it is much worse if there is an attempt to divert or re-profit though, which I think happened to you. If we DVR an event and zip through the commercials are we stealing revenue from the sellers? Intellectual, electronic, and art theft is a complex area. Wedding photographers have to nearly ruin an image with a watermark to get their brides, who they are building relationships with, not to take images. I don’t think there is an EASY answer or solution. I hope you don’t remove that images that have inspired 1000’s. While I’m not an attorney, I do have family members that are, and we’ve had extensive conversations around this. There is a certain strategy to first copyright all images you post. Then, if you do discover an infringement, let the thief build up some profit first, then negotiate for a portion of those profits, however, given the Internet is international most situations will be difficult to enforce. It is infuriating, and I HATE to say this, but it is almost a necessary evil, we are forced to profit in other ways as technology changes. There will one day be a way to limit, but there will always be away around it. I’m usually an optimist, but when dealing with faith in society regarding thievery, I ain’t, but I also realize in principal, that I may be guilty depending on where the line is drawn. Complex issue ....another great image though. Don't worry, I wont steal it, but if I try to recreate it, well, hmmmmm ![]() Wow - that was awesome; thank you for sharing your thoughts! I encourage you to recreate the shot, that's why I often include my lighting setup information at the bottom of my flickr descriptions. www.athenacarey.com

tonylong ...winded More info | Apr 12, 2009 08:35 | #5649 Wow, is this happening in a country covered by copyright laws? That (any commercial use, actually) is definitely actionable. Even if it's made in a country that is loose with copyright laws it would still be illegal to distribute a product like that in compliant countries. 'Course I don't know how it works with Internet distribution, but you would definitely have a case for filing complaints with companies like Ebay. Tony

Yep, have that one too. Worst trait like that, is always having an answer, whether one is needed, requested, or otherwise wanted. (Good thing you asked) A Camera - A Lens -- Gear Doesn't Matter
