Canon confirms there will be no EOS 1D Mark IV/1Ds Mark IV

Instead they will be releasing several 1-series for everyone in 2011:

Strange that you mention company take overs... I heard Microsoft is going to buy Canon who will then buy Nikon ;)

Fine, maybe Microsoft isn't going to be involved in reality...but Canon buying Nikon certainly is a possibility.

They'll be RC1 editions though. Probably be another couple of years for RTM.
