Upgrading 5D?
A 30D type upgrade?
What do you like to see differently when you see tag price 10-25 percent more?

i don't think it will happen. i also don't think canon is as pressured to substantially upgrade the 5d.

there is no competition on this level.

Very true, 5D is an a league on it's on and what amazes me is no competetor is trying to move in on FF, cause from the amount of 5D's I see , it's a great seller!

40d is XXD camera.

I believe you missed my point (though admittedly, I wasn't very direct with it). The 1D3 is famed to be the best AF system Canon has produced to date, but many users are having horrible problems with their 1D3's - to the point that their 30D's and 5D's are out-performing their 1D3 in AI Servo, not to mention ultra-low light (where the 5D seems to excel).

In the same vein, we have a new camera with a new focus system that is, to date, unproven. Yes, it appears to be better in many respects on paper (cross-type sensors, etc.). But what's shown to better on paper isn't always better in practice.

I'm convinced that the new system had many advantages including the cross-type sensors spread throughout the AF sensor field, and the new AF processing speed. But, I'm also a bit skeptical of a new AF system given the problems that some are having with the 1D3.

Got it now. Yes, 40d was ready few months ago (test samples exif say so) so there is chance that all cross types sensors or faster response might result in over-kill we will have to wait and see.

The 40D should be better, and I hope it is. For my purposes, this camera is the basis for the next rendition of the 5D. I'm sure that there will be many similarities between the next 5D and the 40D, just as there are between the present 5D and the 30D.

As someone who is looking to upgrade REALLY soon, I personally think for the money the 5D is priced at I don't think the enhancements are worth the premium to be paid... I am also skeptical the 40D will be able to produce a superior picture in low light to the current 5D... I'll be curious to see the reviews... Here's one for buying a 5D now, getting a kick a$$ camera for a price you can't beat...

you're saying you're gonna get a 5d now? i'm gonna keep an eye out on you in the next couple of weeks and if you still dont have a 5d then - i'm gonna flame you so bad! lol
only joking.

I hope its this fall or sooner, if by the new year there is no annoucement then a MKIII is what I will get, hopefully by then the AF issues would have been identified, and corrected and this issue will die.
