Interesting announcements. I'm guessing these will be mid line lenses.

Lets hope it doesnt turn out to be just a kit lens optics with IS thrown in for good measure.

I guess Canon had to come out with something new, after the Sigma 18-200OS & Tamron 18-250 or whatever it is.

I say $300. The 18-55 IS is supposed to be $200 so I'm just adding $100 to the old 55-200 price.

Are these direct replacements for the 18-55 kit lens & 55-200 which also has the same crappy kit lens build?

If so then they should in theory be much better, UD elements, spectra coatings etc etc.. they also look more modern & better built than the kit lenses, although still no focus ring, apart from that little thing at the end of the lens :-p

The 55-200 will definately cost less thant the 75-300 IS. I'm guessing around the $350 price point. this lens was designed to naturally complement the new 18-55 IS. This is definately a lower end consumer telephoto lens. The mid-range telephoto is the 75-300IS.

Agreed - this is going to be a relatively inexpensive lens. I would guess around $300 or so.

It will sell for about 249 euros over here, apparently.

Normally, that would mean a similar amount in $, so about $ 250, provided it is going to be sold in the US.

Kind regards.
