One of the differences between the (occasional) macro photographer and ‘normal’ people is what happens when they find the next door neighbours cat (Millie) has left a present.
My sister would say ‘Eww Gross!’. I say ‘Cool. Photos!’
There was a bit of experimenting with lighting, using table lamps, bike lights, pop up flash and reflectors/diffusers. I either need proper lighting kit or more hands.

Interesting.. Not sure I would have taken shots of it. It's a bit of a shame you've taken it away from it's context.

What would have been better (in my opinion) would be to leave it on the kitchen floor and have the cat in the background.

The first one almost looks as if the mouse is winking at you. I like it, but I agree that a more natural background would have enhanced this greatly.

Thanks for your comments
To be honest, I didn't think about keeping the head where I found it, on grey tarmac, in the shade as it was going dark. Perhaps moving it to the grass would have been better, but again I didn't think of that. I just moved the subject to the light. It seemed the simpler option to me.
Pete, I like your idea of having the cat in the background, but I'm not sure how to persuade her to pose :)
