Those of you who are professional photographers, or have degrees in photography or something involving photography, where did you go to school? Where did others that you know go to school? Where do you wish you went? Who has the best programs? etc.

I've been a photographer for a long time now. My education continues to this day though. I was just out in the desert testing a new look and playing around. The learning never stops.

My formal education consists of a BA in psychology from UC Santa Barbara. At the time, I never gave my major much thought. In retrospect, I still apply some of the lessons I learned in my day to day business dealings. Another big piece of my education came from my first job out of college. That's where I learned how to play in the real world.

I don't recommend photography schools like Brooks. They do a second rate job of teaching photography, a worse job of teaching what it takes to be to successful in photography and an appallingly bad job teaching everything else. There's something to be said about a good ol' fashioned college education.

I have a degree in Music from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma and have been a high school band director for nearly 30 years. All of my formal study has been in music, history, theology and political science.

I first learned photography while in high school in Fairbanks, Alaska, and lost my first darkroom in a flood shortly after graduating (it was in a basement). I processed my first chromes in E-3 chemicals, studied the zone system extensively, and have worked with view cameras, crown graphics (both 4x5 and a "baby" 6x9), medium format, 35mm, and digital.

I have shot weddings for several studios, had photographs published in regional magazines and traveled Oklahoma extensively on assignment. All of my photography has been learned from working pros, while on assignments or in extensive private study.

Randolph Macon and Old Dominion University for various degrees in English, History, and Political Science. I've had professional training in Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Flash, but nothing in photography. I wouldn't mind going back for some photography classes.
